BACK PACK PROGRAM
Did you know that 1 in 4 children in Watauga County struggle with food insecurity?
The Hunger and Health Coalition has worked for years to help ensure children within Watauga County are getting enough to eat. The Backpack Program is a safe, confidential way to get food in the hands of one of the most vulnerable populations in the area.
HOW TO SIGN UP
Contact your child's guidance counselor or teacher for more details. Every effort will be made to keep all information confidential. The Backpack Program operates under anonymity to protect the privacy of both the child and parents as food insecurity and poverty are often stigmatized in our society.
Food packs are given out discreetly to the children on Friday's so that the child and family has enough to eat over the weekend and on holiday's.
HOW IT WORKS
HOW TO HELP
The Backpack Program relies on local school systems, other non profits and donors like you! To make a donation or to sponsor a child please use the button below to contact our Director of Operations, Anita Wilson. Or feel free to give us a call to learn more details!
WE'RE GOIN' MOBILE!
When challenges knock on our door, we answer.
Because of COVID and school systems operating under a flex schedule the Backpack Program has gone mobile! What does that mean exactly. It just means that a team of volunteers will take the food packs to the doors of the children who would otherwise have received them in school.
